Can a vacuum brazing furnace brazing diamond?

03-26-2025       Author: KJ technology

Vacuum brazing furnace has important applications in diamond tool manufacturing. Due to the high interfacial energy between diamond and general metals and alloys, it is not easily infiltrated by general low melting point alloys, and traditional manufacturing techniques are difficult to achieve strong chemical bonding or metallurgical bonding. Vacuum brazing technology can use active brazing materials (such as those containing strong carbide forming elements such as Ti and Cr) to brazing diamond in a high-temperature vacuum environment, achieving a strong bond between diamond and metal substrate.

Specifically, the vacuum brazing furnace removes impurities such as grease and oxide film on the surface of the workpiece through a vacuum environment during diamond brazing, ensuring the cleanliness of the welding interface. At the same time, the high temperature environment causes the brazing material to melt and fill the gap between the diamond and the metal substrate, forming a stable connection. In addition, the strong carbide forming elements in the active brazing material will undergo chemical reactions with the carbon elements on the surface of the diamond, generating carbides and further enhancing the bonding strength.

For example, in the research of vacuum brazed diamond tools, a strong bond between diamond and steel substrate has been successfully achieved, significantly improving the tool's service life and performance. These research results indicate that vacuum brazing furnaces have significant advantages and feasibility in brazing diamonds.
